Prospective Mentor Advisors

About the Position

Under an unpaid educational work experience, Mentor Advisor provide individual attention to students' academic goals. They are responsible for providing short and long term academic planning throughout the year. Students may visit the Mentor Advising Center for academic advising, resources, and forms. Mentors create a proposed education plan after reviewing a student's PAWS Report. Mentors provide walk-in academic counseling and by appointment.

Mentors are required to check their coyote email on a regular basis. Among other things, we require student staff to adhere to a Professional Code and Attendance Policy. These help facilitate a positive experience while serving the MAC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average
  • Positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Declared major of Criminal Justice, Economics, History, Political Science, Social Sciences, or Sociology
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
  • Capacity for discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Once selected, pass the Student Success Peer Advisor Training Program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sophomore or junior status (exceptional students of all levels may be considered)
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to guide/mentor with maturity and academic excellence
  • Resourcefulness
  • Thorough knowledge of your specific major (Criminal Justice, Economics, HistoryPolitical Science, Social Sciences, or Sociology) including the registration processes and policies, and how to navigate academic departments
